About Department
The department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1989 offering B. Tech. course with an intake of 30 students, which was enhanced to 50 in the year 2001 and subsequently to 60 in the year 2009. With passage of time, the department has transformed itself into one of high repute offering post graduate and doctoral programs. The department has started M. Tech. Chemical Engineering course in the year 2001 with an intake of 25 students, M.Tech Nano Technology (AICTE approved) in the year 2012 an intake of 25 students and M.Tech Environmental Engineering (AICTE approved) in the year 2016 with an intake of 25 students. At present, M. Tech Pharmaceutical & Fine Chemical Technology program (AICTE approved) is started with an intake of 24 from the AY 2022-23. The department is also having research facilities for Ph. D in Chemical Engineering. The students are provided good computing and internet facilities. The department has well equipped laboratories, including pilot-plant facilities. Certain sophisticated equipment likeX- Ray Diffraction Unit, Computer- controlled bioreactor, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatography, High Performance liquid chromatography, UV- Vis Spectrometer and Millipore water purification system have been purchased for carrying out research work by students and faculty. The department also has several research projects funded by BRNS, AICTE, UGC etc. Over the years, Department has been working towards achieving its Vision and Mission in tune with the Institute’s Vision and Mission. It also has a well laid-out quality policy being adopted in all its activities and is putting forth its best efforts to meet the aspirations of all the stakeholders. The B.TechChemical Engineering program being offered by the Department is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) four times, (i.e. 2005-2007, 2013-2015, 2016-2019 & 2019-2022) with the current validity up to 30th June 2022
The Department faculty are actively pursuing research in thrust areas including Membrane Separation Processes, Waste Water Treatment, Nanotechnology, Environmental Engineering, Solar Hydrogen-Electro and Photocatalysts, Energy Engineering, Micro Reactors, Fluidization Engineering, Modelling, Simulation and Optimization.Out of 14 faculty, while 5 faculty have completed their Ph.D., from institutions of high repute, 3 are about to defend their dissertation and reset of them are pursuing their research in the areas of micro reactors, adsorption and catalysis of nanomaterials. Our faculty have been working on various projects sponsored by funding agencies including DST, BRNS, SERB, and AICTE/UGC. Collaborations with national and international institutes have led to high impact research publications including ACS Applied Materials, including ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, ACS Sustainable Chemistry, PhysicalChemistry&Chemical Physics, Chemical Engineering Science, Advanced Functional Materials,Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering, Indian Chemical Engineer etc. The Department encourages holistic development of the students in addition to class-room teaching and laboratory practice. Students are made industry ready by providing them unique opportunities through industrial training, aptitude related skills, soft skills, seminars, and industrial visits. Our students are also encouraged to take up research internships in institutions of excellence including IITs, NITS and CSIR Labs, and have performed exceedingly well.
The department conducts a National Level Technical Symposium called FUSION to provide a platform for the students to exchange their academic research/project with peers from other institutions. The Department also publish a news letter called ‘AVISHKAR” half yearly with contents ranging from student articles, faculty and industry perspectives, expert interviews, alumni testimonials and departmental activities. Our Department also encourage students to participate in national/international level technical conferences/seminars, project competitions, workshops, entrepreneurship training, inter college competitions. Students of our Department are placed in reputed corporations nationally and internationally including Deccan Fine Chemicals, Dr. Reddys Labs, Berger Paints, Rayala Seema Alkalies, Divis Laboratories, Hetero Drugs and IT related companies as well. In summary the Department of Chemical Engineering at JNTUACEA strives hard to provide a holistic and hand-on learning environment t our students to create industry ready chemical engineers who can make impactful contributions to the world.
