Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1946 offering four year B.Tech course. The present intake of this course is 60 students. The M.Tech (Heat Power R & A/c) course was started in the year 1972, M.Tech. (Energy Systems) was started in the year 2001, M.Tech (Advanced I.C. Engines) and M.Tech (Product Design) were started in the year 2009. The present intake of the all these courses is 25 students. The department is also having research facilities for Ph.D.


To be a centre of excellence in the field of Mechanical Engineering for providing its students and faculty with opportunities for excel in education and targeted research themes in emerging areas.


To provide students with sound mechanical engineering knowledge and improve the quality of life of our citizens through teaching, research and outreach programs.

The students are provided with good computing and Internet facilities. The department library has 950 books and 3000 journals. There are 72 learning resources in the form of CDs. The department has well equipped laboratories. Certain sophisticated equipment like Computer controlled single cylinder four stroke diesel engine test rig with eddy current dynamometer, Five gas analyzer, Octane and Cetane Analyzer, Wind Tunnel Setup are there in the department for carrying out research work by students and faculty. The licensed softwares available in the department for class work and research work are Auto Desk Mechanical Educational set (10users), ALG Nastran –Analysis (30 users), Cadian Mech-2D(5 users) , Ironcad-3D (unlimited), Edge-CAM (5 users), PLC simulator software (20 users), Robo X simulator software (20 users), Control X simulator software (20 Users), Pro-E, CATIA ED2, Fluent software (20 users), and STAR – CD, Es-ice, Es-turbo.

The priority research areas for research are I.C. Engines, heat transfer, renewal energy, Thermal engineering, Production engineering, Design and Industrial engineering.

The alumni of the department are occupying distinguished positions in reputed organizations, Esteemed institutions and often contribute in the development activities of the department.
